Host family opportunities

CIEE (Council on International Educational Exchange) has asked to circulate this invitation.

Become a host family for International Students

CIEE, the only Maine based non-profit agency that coordinates foreign exchange students would like to invite you to bring the world to Maine.    We have been designated by the Department of State to sponsor, place and supervise high school exchange students. We sponsor over 1400 exchange students annually from all over the world.   Our mission is to help people gain understanding, acquire knowledge, and develop skills for living in a globally interdependent and culturally diverse world.  By having these students live with Maine families, we break down the barriers that divide people, not only across international borders, but also within our own community.

Host families choose a student to best match their family dynamics.  All students speak some English and come with their own spending money and health insurance.  Students become one of the family, do chores, get involved in High School activities, and enjoy one school year with their Host Families!  All kinds of families enjoy hosting- kids, no kids, empty nesters, single parents, and so on. The main requirement is kindness and a willingness to learn about a foreign culture. Your family will not only gain a new member, you will also learn about the world, its many values, traditions, languages, food, and more.
