Dear CAFAM members,
North Yarmouth Academy is seeking host families for two incoming sophomore boys from China.
They come from the northeastern province of Liaoning, along with a third student who is returning to NYA.
One of the new arrivals is Evan Tao whose favorite subject is math. His mother is a travel agent, which has enabled him to visit numerous countries including America. He lists many other activities and pastimes.
The other student is Ricky Kong, who is particularly interested in biology. He loves music and sports, and he too has traveled to Europe.
According to NYA, the responsibilities of a host family are fairly simple. First and foremost, treat the student as you would a member of your family, help him or her navigate the NYA schedule, expose the student to our beautiful state, and engage him or her in your family’s daily life.
NYA Homestay host families can be two-parent or single-parent households. To offset expenses, a monthly stipend is paid. Students bring their own spending money and medical coverage.
If you are interested in pursuing this, Betsy Tomlinson has much more information available including profiles of the two students. She can be reached by phone at 847-5407. You can also email a request for more information to lhindman[ampersand]nya.org.
The students will be arriving in Maine on August 26.
Best regards,
Craig
