The Peking Opera group (Qi Shu Fang) is scheduled to perform at the American Folk Festival in Bangor.
The three day festival celebrates multicultural traditional arts, music, dance, crafts, food and storytelling through a cultural arts Festival.
Wearing elaborate and colorful costumes, performers in this traditional Chinese theater combine music, vocal performance, mime, dance and acrobatics to help audiences navigate the plot of the production. The layers of meaning within each movement are expressed in time with music and are based on Chinese history, folklore, and even contemporary life. The Peking Opera tradition is regarded as one of the cultural treasures of China– a treasure for Mainers and visitors to understand and develop a greater appreciation and insight into Chinese culture.
Dates: August 23, 24, and 25.
Time of Festival: Friday 6-10:30pm; Sat noon-10:30pm and Sunday noon-6:30pm.
Peking Opera Group Performances (LL Bean Penobscot Stage)will be on Saturday at 1:30 and 9:30 and Sunday at 1:45.
Location: On the Bangor waterfront – There will be signs and parking at the Bass Park with a free shuttle.
