Maine Chinese Conference Oct. 25-26

Dear CAFAM Members,

The annual Maine Chinese Conference will be held in Bangor at Husson University on October 25-26, 2019. This is a wonderful opportunity for educators, administrators and anyone interested in promoting Chinese language and culture. There will be numerous workshops, lectures, curriculum building seminars, special guests, exhibitors and even cooking demonstrations.

Chinese Classes This Fall

Dear CAFAM Members,

New England Institute of Education Chinese School is offering an opportunity for individual and group Chinese classes in Falmouth this Fall and they are still accepting students.

Classes are for 3rd through 12th grade and adult groups.

“Try Your Hand” Calligraphy Celebration

Friends of Congress Square Park will host an event to celebrate calligraphy styles and traditions from around the world. Calligraphers from many countries, including China, will demonstrate their skills, inviting people to try the different styles.

Chinese Opera

Dear CAFAM members,

The USM School of Music and Confucius Institute welcome a troupe of professional actors and musicians to give a performance of Chinese opera. The program will feature Beijing opera excerpts, including movement and music, traditional Chinese instruments, and lively Chinese folk songs.

Date: Saturday, October 5, 2019
Time: 8:00 p.m.
Where: Westbrook Performing Arts Center
471 Stroudwater Street, Westbrook

The performance is free. Seating available on a first-come, first served basis.

Next month, October 9th and 23rd, from 12pm-1pm, the Mandarin roundtable will be held at The Language Exchange, 75 Market Street, Suite 305 (3rd floor) in downtown Portland.

These roundtables are open to all interested — members and non-members of CAFAM, students and non-students of The Language Exchange — and to all levels of Mandarin Chinese.

Come and partake in fun and informal conversations in Mandarin and get to know a community of like-minded people. Feel free to bring your lunch.
