Planning CAFAM group trip to museums

Dear CAFAM Members,

There are a couple of museum exhibits that may be of interest to CAFAM members, and we are hoping to organize a group visit to one or both of the exhibits. If you are interested in traveling with a group to either of these museums at some point in the next couple of months, we would like to know!

·Farnsworth Art Museum in Rockland, Maine: A special exhibition of Chinese artist Ai Weiwei’s Circle of Animals/Zodiac Head: Gold —a sculptural work. It will be on display through Dec 30, 2018.

·Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, Mass.: Empresses of China’s Forbidden City explores the role of empresses in shaping China’s Qing dynasty. Nearly 200 spectacular objects from the Palace Museum tell the stories of how imperial women influenced court politics, art and religion. This exhibit will run until Feb 10, 2019.

·Also at the Peabody: Yin Yu Tang: A Chinese House is an ancestral family home that offers a rare perspective on the artistic and cultural heritage of rural China. Admission is charged for a tour of the house.

If you would like to join a group to visit any of these museum exhibits, please contact CAFAM treasurer Gary Libby at gwlibby2(at)gmail.com.

Depending on the responses we get, we will try to coordinate a good date and mode of transportation for one or two field trips to the museums.

Thank you!
